Umzolozolo Lodge has 3 Luxury Chalets, a Family Chalet, A Honeymoon Suite and a presidential Suite

There are two game drives daily and if that isn't enough you can ask for a fishing trip in the middle of the day as well!

    There are 3 Luxury Chalets. They all have a large bedroom area as well as lounge area.
    There are extra pull out beds in the main bedrrom which can be used for families.
    The rooms can also be made up as Twin sleepers.

    Honeymoon Suite

    This Romantic Suite is Tucked away in the bush for complete privacy! The suite has it's own deck which looks across the valley.
    This suit is not just for honeymooners though, it is a perfect destination for those couples just wanting to get away and stay in their own space for a few days. Private dinners can be aranged in the room

  • Umzolozolo Family Chalet

    Family Suite

    The Family Chalet has 2 seperate bedrooms which can easily sleep a family of four or 2 couples travelling together.
    The chalet has seperate bathrooms and toilets and each room has it's own entrance and viewing deck

Rates for Umzolozolo Game Lodge

All Rates include welcome drink on arrival, 2 game drives daily. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner. Snacks and refreshments, soft drinks,, local beer and house wine on afternoon game drives and bottled water and hot beverages at the lodge throughout the day
Rates Exclude a Reserve Rhino protection levy of about R 40 pp per day, payable at the lodge on departure.
Drinks are not included except for hot beverages which are available at the main lodge and in your room.

Activities on Site

>> The Game viewing is in open vehicles which gives guests the opportunity of viewing fauna and flora in all directions.
>> Two scheduled Safaris (game drives) are included in the rate pppn. (maximum of 10 guests per game viewer)
>> Guided or self-guided Birding Walks within the fenced area.
>> Fishing (seasonal).
>> Birding
>> Night drives with 24 hour notice on request (if approved by the reserve)


The Lodge

Children on Game drives
Kindly note that children 12yrs and under are welcome to join us on our game drives, however; these drives will not be allowed within 50 meters of a big five sighting. Depending on the maturity of the children, this will also be at the discretion of the game ranger at the time of the siting.
** smaller children must remain quiet on drives so as to not inconvenience other guests and other game drives. Unruly behavior will not be tolerated and may result in the game drive returning to the lodge and then continuing without the children and their parents.

Please advise your reservations agent or Springbok Lodge if your arrival time is going to differ from the one you completed on your booking form.
One arrival at Woodlands gate and after filling on your arrival form you will be directed to the parking area where your Springbok Lodge Guide will come and fetch you. You are entering a big 5 Game reserve, please drive carefully and be responsible if you happen on any sightings on your way to the parking.
You will be transported by Game Viewer by your Game Ranger to the Lodge.

Daily Timetable

All times are approximate and are dependent on weather and seasonal sunset and sunrise times. Visiting groups that are large enough to use one Game viewer together can further customise the times to suit themselves.

Arrive anytime from 12H00. Lunch is at 1 pm and and you can check into your tents from 14h00 hours

Game drives are at about 15h00 in winter. In summer they leave a bit later usually at 16h00

Dinner in winter is at around 19h30 and a bit later in summer

In Winter, morning coffee is at about 06h30 with your game drive departing at about 07h00. In Summer your game drive will be about an hour earlier

Breakfast in Summer is at about 09h00 and about an hour later in winter.


Please be ready to leave your tent by 11H00 hours and to be transferred to your vehicle by 12h00

Cancellation / Prepayment

A 50% deposit is required to confirm your accommodation. The balance is to be paid 35 days prior to your stay

  • More than 30 days prior to arrival : 10% cancellation fee
  • 14 days to 30 days prior to arrival : 50% cancellation fee
  • 14 days or less - prior to arrival : 100% cancellation fee

Children on Game Drives
Children Under the age of 13 years of age are welcome to join game drives but there may be a 50m Big 5 sighting approach limit at the Rangers discretion if you he feels it may not be safe to go closer.
** smaller children must remain quiet on drives so as to not inconvenience other guests and other game drives. If the Rangers feels that children are inconveniencing other guests or other game drives, or endangering themselves or the other guests by their behaviors this may result in the game drive returning to the lodge and then continuing without these children and their parents.

Your Luxury Tent

Game viewing in open vehicles affords guests the opportunity of viewing fauna and flora, whilst traversing the undulating hills, following river courses and open savanna plains. The reserve is well stocked with lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, rhino, elephant, zebra, giraffe and plenty of other mammals, birds and trees

Visitors vehicles are to be left at the dedicated secure parking areas near the gate that they entered the reserve through. You will be picked up by and dropped off there by your game ranger.

Directions from Johannesburg

Head towards Ladysmith on the N3 Toll Road.
Once you have entered KwaZulu Natal via Van Reenen’s Pass. Look out for the Ladysmith Toll off-ramp (at the bottom of Van Reenen’s Pass.) Turn left and drive toward Ladysmith on the R103.
When you arrive in Ladysmith, drive straight through, following the N11 Road to Newcastle.
From the last traffic lights when leaving Ladysmith, travel for ± 7kms.
Turn Right onto the D45 Road at the brown Nambiti sign. Drive for +\- 10Kms along this road, at the T-Junction turn right, travel along side the Game fence for +\- 2 kms until you reach the thatched gate house on the left hand side.
You will be welcomed by the guard, who will direct you to the secure parking area, where your ranger will be waiting to transport you to Umzolozolo Private Safari Lodge.

Directions from Durban

Head towards Johannesburg on the main N3 Toll Road, take the Colenso / Bergville off Ramp. (About 8km after the Shell Ultra City/Petrol Station) At the top of the off ramp, turn right over the freeway and travel for +/- 20km on the R103 to Colenso. 1km after the Colenso turnoff, turn right to Ezakheni (The turnoff is opposite the Farm Stall which is on your left hand side).
Travel for 11km, you will cross over a railway bridge and come to a stop street, turn left at the stop street. (You will be passing the Ezakheni Industrial Area on your right hand side.)
Travel for 10 km till you come to a T Junction.
At the T Junction, turn right towards Ezakheni and continue for 14 km. (Look out for the Brown Nambiti Sign, as well as a sign D46)
Turn left onto the D46 (dirt road) to Elandslaagte.
Travel for 7km until you reach the thatched gate house on your right hand side.
You will be welcomed by the guard, who will direct you to the secure parking area, where your ranger will be waiting to transport you to Umzolozolo Private Safari Lodge.
